CIC WELCOMES LATEST MEMBER ORGANIZATION

Washington DC - June 17, 2008 - The Convention Industry Council is pleased to announce the addition of the latest new member organization, the Travel Industry Association (TIA). CIC now represents 34 member organizations within the meetings, conventions, exhibitions and hospitality industry.

Brenda Anderson, Chair of the CIC Board and CEO of Society of Incentive & Travel Executives, said. “The addition of TIA really completes the loop for us with in the overall travel and hospitality industry. There are so many issues on which we have common perspective and concern. We welcome TIA and look forward to their participation and dialogue as we move into the future.”

TIA, the Travel Industry Association, is a non-profit trade organization that represents and speaks for the common interests of the $740 billion U.S. travel industry.

  • Based in Washington, D.C., TIA is a public voice and political liaison for the entire industry.
  • TIA promotes increased travel to and within the United States through marketing initiatives, including the Discover America® brand as well as serving as advocates with the U.S. government to ease travel procedures.
  • TIA is the authoritative and recognized source of travel research, arming its members with powerful and exclusive statistics and analyses on the size and economic impact of the industry as well as in marketing and other areas.

CIC’s signature programs, the CMP Designation and APEX, continue to grow and provide value to the convention industry and the hospitality field. There are over 14,000 CMPs with 500 signed up for the certification exam taking place this summer. APEX is about to launch Power Shop, the Microsoft Office ready, networkable version of the Tool Box with all of the current APEX templates, and data standardized Housing Tools, RFPs and ESG (Event Staging Guide). APEX’s technology partners, hotel firms and convention centers- the backbone of the industry - have incorporated these standard data fields into their systems. CIC’s opportunity is to globalize these programs while adding a coordinated voice to key issues impacting the profession and the field.
